The Black Christian Men’s Association will mark its 31st observance of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with an interfaith service on Monday, Jan. 14, noon at Trinity C.M.E. Church.
The speaker will be Carlos Davenport, the owner of Friends Funeral & Cremation Group, LLC; which now manages Mack's Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
He is one of four children born to his parents. He gave his life to Christ at the age of 5.
He has been a student of the Gospel as far back as he can remember and announced his calling into the ministry while a sophomore in college.
Carlos Davenport was born on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 1987.
Carlos has three sisters that he says he loves beyond life.
Carlos was reared by his grandparents and gives credit to them for much of his upbringings and life lessons.
Having accepted Christ as his personal savior at the age of 5, Carlos has been a student of the Gospel since he can remember and announced his calling into ministry as a sophomore in College.
He has been recognized by former President George W. Bush with the Texas Congressional Youth Award and by former President Barack H. Obama as an exemplary leader for having broken barriers for African Americans.
He is a 2011 graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio where he received a BA degree in criminal justice with a concentration in legal issues and minored in political science.
He furthered his education at San Antonio Mortuary College where he focused on funeral directing and in 2020 attended Gupton Jones College.
He is active in his community. He started a community annual back to school block party in Elberton and Hartwell which in two years has grown to provide backpacks and resources to more than 400 children.
Carlos is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, a standing member of giving hands society - a non profit organization for dying patients.
He is also a member of the Elberton Rotary Club.
Carlos is the uncle to eight nieces and nephews, enjoys traveling to other countries and being the best representation of what his grandparents have instilled in him.
When asked, how do you want to be remembered? Carlos responds by saying, "as a person that loves serving God's people because Heaven truly is my goal."
